The portals of GNPS lead you to a mellow red brick edifice impressing the entrant. It encompasses a miniature world where lessons of discipline and hard work - the signposts of success are taught. The school's amazing journey started with its inception in the year 1974. The school building was formally inaugurated in February, 1976 by Giani Zail Singh - the then Chief Minister of Punjab. The school has state of the art infrastructure, spread over 16 acres. The school as it stands today, strategically in the heart of the City Beautiful, amidst the beautiful ambience of lush green lawns and sprawling play grounds, is ably managed by honorary stalwarts, bureaucrats constituting the Governing Council . The pristine clean building houses all smart class rooms in Junior Wing as well as in Senior Wing, 4 Science Labs, two 3D Labs, digital Maths and English Lab, Digital Library with more than 20,000 books, 4 I.T. Labs, a Medicare Unit with a full time Doctor, Boys and Girls Hostel, 4 big activity halls, open air theatre, lush green grounds and sports facilities.

Apart from the academics, sports and co-curricular activities, due emphasis is laid on character building ,life skills , personality development and value education. It has a universal approach towards all religions. The love for mankind, humanity, feelings of universal brotherhood and other moral values are an integral part of the education. Children regain the freedom to jump and play, and that freedom and environment is provided by Guru Nanak Public School where activity based learning is emphasized in place of examination oriented one. The school organizes many co-curricular activities - moral, sports, literary, cultural and religious; trips and excursions, etc along with academics so as to give maximum exposure to the kids and for development of their all round personality. Sports is an indispensable part of education here. The school has an excellent infrastructure for sports facilities for Cricket, Basket ball, Badminton, Netball, Handball, Tennis, Football and Softball. Participation in Inter & Intra School matches is a routine feature and GNPS feels proud of its ever-energetic sportspersons who bring laurels to the school from time to time at U.T. level , national and international levels. This year, U-19 Basketball Girls team secured Ist place in SD Basketball Cup Tournament ,1st at state level and Ist place in Thakur Memorial Cup National Tournament whereas U-19 Basketball Boys secured 2nd place in Thakur Memorial Basketball tournament at national level. In Roller skating, Armaandeep Kaur secured Ist place in State and 3rd place in National Roller Skating Championship. Rajdeep Singh secured 2nd place in Nationals. Paras Dhiman secured Ist place in All India Roller Skating Cup. In Open Roller Hockey Championship, Nikhil Dhiman got Gold medal. In Cricket, Nipun Sharda secured 2nd place in Indian Junior Player League Tournament held at Dubai and secured Ist place in CCA Tournament along with Sharandeep Singh, Monarch Goyal and Bheem Kanwar. Monarch secured 2nd place in School National Games U-19. In athletics, Dhananter Singh secured 2nd place in Discuss throw and 3rd place in Shot Put at National level. In badminton, Shaurya Madaan secured Ist place at State level and 3rd place at national level. Yatharth Madaan secured Ist place in Lord String Badminton Tournament, 2nd position in Tournament organized by Punjab Badminton Association and 3rd position in Chandigarh State Badminton U-15 Tournament. In Gatka, Paramjot Singh secured Ist place in National and Jagdeep Singh secured 3rd place in National Gatka Tournament. In Taekwondo, Akshat Goyal secured Ist place in National Taekwondo Championship. In Roller Hockey , Milind Mago represented Indian National Team for World Roller Hockey Games and secured 2nd place in China. In Soft Ball, Tushar secured Ist place in School National Softball Tournament. In Karate, Garima secured Ist position at state level. In Roller Skating Tournament JuniorYasharth Singh secured Ist place in nationals. In Taekwondo Junior, Pragya Samma got Gold in Breaking Activity in Inter Club Championship and Gamini Samma got Silver in Fighting Activity in Inter Club Championship. Budding Cricketers of GNPS Cricket Academy, bringing laurels at national level are Taniya Bhatia and Harmanpreet from Girls team and from Boys team, Arshdeep Singh of GNPS was part of the Indian Cricket team that won the U-19 World Cup Tournament held in February 2018 at New Zeeland.
The school has Air Wing and Naval Wing of NCC and the students enrolled therein are at their best in Annual Training Camps and other activities of NCC. GNPS holds its flag high with students getting best cadet award in ATC year after year. Cadet CPL Yagyanidhi Sharma had been chosen for RDC, Delhi, last year. And this year, Cdt CPL Dharam Prateek got best cadet award. To inculcate the values of camaraderie, self-dependence, sharing and caring for one another, students are sent on regular educational and camping trips. Children went for an educational trip to NASA too wherein they had 3 day workshop at Kennedy Space Centre followed by interaction and lunch with Astronaut Barbara Morgan and thereafter a visit to Orlando, Newyork and Washington.
Realizing the importance of the role of extra-curricular activities as a contributing factor towards the development of a child in totality, the school is divided into 4 houses named after the personalities whose lives have been inspirational - Bhai Vir Singh House, General Hari Singh Nalwa House, Maharaja Ranjit Singh House and Rabindra Nath Tagore House. Many co-curricular activities like Youth Parliament, MUN sessions, Aero-Modelling and Robotics, activities related to environment conservation, literary activities, cultural activities, book reading, Yoga sessions, for amusement and entertainment, Quiz ,debates and poetry recitation ,activities related to divinity, Art & Craft, activities of interact club under Rotary Club of Chandigarh Central, activities related to traffic awareness, health and skill enhancement of teachers and students and many more are a regular feature here. Full time counseling is provided by 2 counsellors in school to provide professional help to students to decipher and handle problems. Counselling has been taken beyond the portals of the school in the form of Parent-out-reach programme which has been very successful. Various seminars & workshops are also organized for students and teachers.
GNPS is a minority institution wherein scholarships worth Rs. 1.00 crore are given to the students every year on the basis of need and merit. GNPS students are at their best in each and every field. And the credit goes to the strong driving force of the school, i.e. all highly qualified and dedicated staff members who as a team are always striving towards perfection and bringing out the best in the budding flowers of GNPS.
